I disagree with labelling chivalry and bridge building as less important. Sun Tsu's Academy is a quite powerful wonder if you build it in the "gunpowder age", and rushing for chivalry + bronze working in the beginning allows you to build guards with a defense value of 16 - that's enough until you have gunpowder. Before that, I only research ceremonial burial and wheel / seafaring (depends on how many rivers are near my cities). After gaining chivalry I start the revolution for monarchy and go on with poetry. This allows to have cities > 6 and is an excellent technology to trade in. Then comes construction and after that, i go for gunpowder and start my crusade.
