Hi
: Ground units should still be the backbone of armies.

True, ground troops have to advance forward to fight
and win. To secure the supply lines, and bases, and
cities.

You can't win a war with air power. With own air
superior power, you can help ground troops, and ground
troops have to help the air fleet.

: Air transports are too expensive and not needed when
: I have shinkansen.

Air transports are helpful, they can make deep advances
into the enemy territory in a pre invasion stage. To
secure landing beaches, bridges, or air bases.

But, Airborne troops only have light weaponry, else
they couldn't fit into planes[1]. Only attack targets
with them, when you are you can have additional
supplies, and or when your relief troops can reach your
Airborne bridgehead immediatly. [2]

1. This its a reality over game-play error in the
game. You can load up to 100 Paratroopers into a
plane (C-17 Globemaster), but only 2 MTB's.

2. Compare the Operation "Market Garden" with
the Operation "Plunder" and "Varsity"
