There should be a forum on strategy so people can get better at this game faster. Or is it this forum? I was the one who used the capital AI strategy to good effect in the last version. Unwilling to give up my preference to a scientific strategy, I've devised something that I think will work well against current AI. Below is the planned research order of my strategy.
Pottery
(reseraching pottery first allows the trick of building a granary very soon and complete it when food is at 39. learned from Capital AI)
The Wheel
Warrior Code
Horseback Riding
Bronze Working
Military Research
(other AIs do this and I would be vulnerable if I didn't. during this period I would build a few settlers and some escort units.)
Alphabet
Masonary
Construction
Ceremonial Burial
Mysticism
Astronomy
Writing
(save up money when writing completed, does not restart research until observatory is completed)
Currency
Code of Laws
Trade
(allows freight, which helps build the key wonder of this strategy, Newton's College)
Polytheism
Monotheism
Theology
(enables three wonders for possible strategy adjustments, also completes one of the required sciences for science)
Poetry
Literature
Mathematics
Philosophy
Science
Physics
Theory of Gravity
(now attempts to build the key wonder, university, temple, theater and switches to monarchy)
University
Monarchy
Tactics
Chivalry
Military Research
Engineering
Banking
Invention
Iron Working
Medicine
Gunpowder
Chemistry
Explosives
(probably can get much of these from a trading partner, gets engineers to build more terrain improvements to compensate for lack of cities.)
Bridge Building
Steam Engine
Railraod
Industrialization
Enviromentalism
Sanitation
(yay!)
Steel
Refining
Combustion Engine
Automobile
(more science, yay!)
Now the player can go for the corporation or electronics for mass production, then shinkansen, bombers, and world conquest!)
