Internet Hot-Seat Server Tweaks...

Needed: System, internet connection, modern switch, WinXP Pro SP3 install, C-evo, C-evo AIs, C-evo Mods, (i suggest Charles' wonderful Extended Nations Mod - consider a donation to him for this as well)...

1) Install as Administrator.
2) Make Modifications to the Default User and All Users (or later to the User accounts themselves). (Basically remove everything from the Start Menu, Desktop, My Documents, Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch).
3) Next make one or more Users that are LIMITED accounts (not Administrators). Or you can make one account and copy it to each C-evo game account. These will be where C-evo runs from.
4) Login to each account and remove some of the automatic stuff that gets created from the account(s). Setup the Start, Desktop, Wallpaper(s), Icons, Themes, etc. (Basically remove all the shortcuts and eye candy that will be fiddled with that has nothing to do with C-evo). The Classic Start Menu seems harder to remove everything extraneous from than the newer Start Menu so don't try to go too retro with all this.
5) Login as Administrator and install C-evo, i'm really not sure if you can do multiple installations, for example one for each C-evo account.
6) Navigate to the C-evo install directory and add write permissions to the Saved folder for the Remote Desktop Users group. (Do this or you won't be able to save the books or move to the next turn!)
7) Do everything suggested here: http://www.mobydisk.com/techres/securing_remote_desktop.html
8) Also enable all the "Do not allow ..." settings in Group Policy>Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components>Terminal Services>Client/Server data redirection folder
9) Consider "setting a time limit for active but idle TS sessions" to 15 or 30 minutes in the Group Policy>Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates>Windows Components>Terminal Services>Sessions folder
10) Read this link for additional tips: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb457106.aspx
11) Tips: Update/Patch all and use SP3, Disable the GUEST account, Disable Simple File Sharing, Disable unused Services, etc. (Use Google)
12) Consider allowing multiple CONCURRENT Remote Desktop LOGINS (or everyone will be waiting for the one player to finish his/her turn)... Seee this link:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/06/13/enable-multiple-concurrent-remote-desktop-connections-or-sessions-in-windows-xp/
13) For Win2000/2003 Servers read these links:
http://www.windowsecurity.com/articles/Windows_Terminal_Services.html
http://www.msterminalservices.org/software/Profile-&-user-environment-management/
14) Consider using Virtual Machines, M$ has released their older well used virtual software for free.
15) Have Fun!
