Does it happen that in current version the most aggressive player always win?
Whenever I play there is always 1 or 2 (standard) AI that is super aggressive and start gobbling up everyone.
To be fair that is not a problem by itself if there is a good balancing for different playing styles, but it just happens that in almost every games this super aggressive civ will start to snowball into a mega empire that somehow also fair quite well in research and coupled with a swarm of relatively advanced units so it just become unstoppable by late game.
Now when I start to play aggressive as well I begin to understand how the AI manages to get so powerful. Starting with just 2 horseman I am able to eliminate 2 to 3 civ each with 2 to 3 middle-sized cities and partially developed surroundings. I cannot imagine that I will do this well if I simply decide to develop my own blocks of land instead.
Unfortunately I am an empire-builder and don't really enjoy this way of playing, but given that the strengths of defensive unit are capped against offensive unit I guess this is an inevitable outcome. I hope that the coming version can make a better balance for alternative playing styles.
