Enlarged Tileset Project
The game currently has a very small tileset (66x32 pixels), compared with similar games. The code already supports bigger tiles, we still need the appropriate graphics. (This project is probably less important than the Future Units Project.)
The size of the enlarged tiles is 96x48 pixels. In order to work on this project and to test modifications, you need to switch the game to the larger tileset:
- Download the large tileset template and unpack it to the C-evo folder. (The file "Terrain96x48.bmp" must go to the "Graphics" subfolder.) The template contains ugly monochrome graphics for most terrain types, indicating what has to be done.
- Merge the registry file "enlarged_tileset.reg" contained in the ZIP to the registry by double click.
For legal reasons, I'd like all terrain graphics to be in the Public Domain. So there are two ways to contribute to this project:
- You find appropriate pictures somewhere, and you're having the author's statement that they are in the Public Domain.
- More likely: You're creating the artwork, and you put it to the Public Domain.
This page is the place to upload the files in either case. Every single rhombus of textured ground is welcome. The file size limit is 1 MB. If you're going to create pictures, please note the following hints:
- Please don't do it if it's no fun to you.
- If one of your items is used by future C-evo versions, of course you will get your credit.
- Unfortunately, I can't promise that everything posted here will be used by the official game version. That depends on the quality and on the "competition" for that type of terrain. However, nothing will be completely in vain. The work will remain available on the C-evo homepage as long as C-evo exists.
- Use true color (24 Bit RGB), no need to convert the pictures to color palette mode. But please don't use the alpha channel, because C-evo doesn't apply it.
- The border of objects should not be smoothed to the background color (no anti-aliasing or bilinear/trilinear resizing there).
- The items should have the right format and should be tested within the game.
- Please cut your items from the template and do not upload all the rest.
- Before doing the upload, you must convert the file to PNG format.
- The biggest problem and most appreciated work are of course the "connected" terrain types (forest, jungle, hills, mountains).
